无花果树叶

含义

遮羞布,掩饰物。

原文:“Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.” (Genesis3:6)
“两个人的眼睛变明亮了,发现自己赤身裸体,于是便用无花果树的叶子做衣遮蔽身体。”(《创世纪3:6》)

典故

据《圣经·旧约·创世纪》第3章第6节记载,人类始祖亚当和夏娃未能抵住撒旦的诱惑,违背了上帝的嘱托,偷吃了善恶树的果实。于是二人有了智慧,发现自己赤身裸体,便用无花果树的叶子做衣遮住身体。

含义

比喻有才能的人得不到重视,也比喻好东西落入不识货人的手里。

“不要把圣物给狗,也不要把珍珠丢给猪,否则它只会践踏了珍珠,转过来咬你们。”(《马太福音7:6》)

典故

据《圣经·新约·马太福音》第7章第6节记载,耶稣·基督上山以后,对他的门徒说: “千万记住,不要把圣物给狗,也不要把珍珠丢给猪,否则它只会践踏了珍珠,反过来咬你们。”以此来告诫门徒,不要把真心话讲给居心叵测的小人听,不可把珍贵物品送给不识货的人。此外,Cast pearls before swine与汉语中的“对牛弹琴”、“对驴说经”、“明珠暗投”等词含义相近。

Swine指猪、猪秽、下流胚,在口语中多指令人不快的东西。此外,swine单复数同形,较不常用,一般用在兽医上,如swine fever(猪瘟)、swinepox(猪痘)。
