Cognitive Linguistics and Poetic Translation

The objective of this book is to show in what way the school in contemporary linguistics known under the general label of "cognitive linguistics", or more precisely, the version developed in the USA by Ronald W. Langacker, George Lakoff and their followers, could prove useful in providing some insights and practical suggestions to translators and theorists of translation -- of both "linguistic" and "literary" persuasion. In doing so, the author hopes to present arguments in favor of what has already become a fairly generally recognized assumption: that the solid demarcation line traditionally drawn between the areas of linguistic and literary studies is just as artificial, and quite as unnecessary, as that separating "language" from "verbal art."
