The Chinese Embassy in Washington, DC hosted a reception on Wednesday for National Day, as the country marks the 68th anniversary of its founding.

中国驻华盛顿大使馆为庆祝其成立68周年于本周三举行国庆招待会。

Several U.S. lawmakers were among the attendees, as well as Jared Kushner and his wife Ivanka Trump, the son-in-law and daughter of U.S. President Donald Trump. The couple are close advisers to the president.

与会者中有几位美国议员，其中包括贾里德.库什纳和他的妻子伊万卡.特朗普，分别是美国总统唐纳德.特朗普的女婿和女儿。这对夫妇也是特朗普总统的亲密顾问。

It’s not the first time the glamorous first daughter has attended a reception at the Chinese embassy.

这已经不是富有魅力的伊万卡第一次参加中国大使馆的招待会了。

At a February party celebrating the country’s Lunar New Year, the embassy rolled out the red carpet for Ivanka and her five-year-old daughter who was dressed in red.

今年2月在大使馆进行新年派对时，伊万卡和她五岁的女儿身着红色服装出现在为其准备的派对红毯上。

China’s Vice Premier Liu Yandong also attended the event.

中国国务院副总理刘延东也出席了此次会议。

The vice premier is in Washington for the China-U.S. Social and Cultural Dialogue, one of the four dialogues agreed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Trump when the two met at Mar-a-Lago, Florida in April.

刘延东在华盛顿为中美社会和人文对话做准备。今年4月，中国国家主席习近平和特朗普在佛罗里达州的马拉古会晤时，习近平和特朗普达成了四项对话，其中之一就是社会人文对话。

Liu made a short speech at the reception and highlighted the Chinese government’s efforts to improve the lives of its nearly 1.4 billion people, as well as the contributions it made to the development of China and indeed the development of the world.

刘在招待会上发表了简短讲话，强调了中国政府在改善近14亿人口生活方面所作出的努力，以及对中国自身发展甚至是对世界发展所做的贡献。

But she said there’s still much that needs to be done.

但她说，仍然需要作出更大的努力。

The vice premier also stressed the importance of cooperating with the United States, as well as the importance of people-to-people exchanges.

副总理还强调了与美国合作的重要性，以及人文交流的重要性。
